Science melas in connection with national science campaign
Holistic Science Teaching Workshop 2019
Khwarizmi Science Society, in partnership with, World Science Collaborative Ltd., The Academy of Sciences for the Islamic World, UCL Institute of Education, Lahore University fo Management Sciences, Ali Institute of Education and National STEM School presents a unique workshop to enable teachers to explore and learn how to teach science holistically.
In out society, teaching of science is often extremely compartmentalized whereby the science teacher delivers the content in the classroom but does not relate what is beign taught to the real world nor brings forth the diverse body of knowledge available in disciplines such as history, philosophy, religion and ethics. In doing so, s/he runs the risk of leaving the scientific learning unconnected, or much worse, leaving the student more confused and uninformed.
It is absolutely critical, therefore, to teach science holistically i.e. connect the learning in the classroom with the real world by:
1. Bringing together knowledge from diverse sources and disciplines such as science, history, philosophy, religion and ethics.
2. Using hands-on experiments and play to bring inspiration and insight in the science classrooms.
3. Planning lessons that adequately address the curious minds of students and encourage critical inquiry.
4. Addressing big philosophical questions that stem from scientific discoveries such as Multiverses, Big Bang, Genetics, Evolution and Artificial Intelligence etc.
The Holistic Teaching of Science Workshop is OPEN to ALL Teachers of Science in Middle School (Grades 6-8) at any public, private, or religious (madrassa) school that struggle with teaching modern science in the classroom and wants to do better. The workshop is 1 of 3 workshops and will be carried out to take place in Pakistan, Algeria and Indonesia between June 2019 and June 2020. Lahore Science Mela 2019
The progression towards a more scientifically immersed community continues as the KSS plans to organize the third Science Mela in October, 2019, in collaboration with the Ali Institute of Education. Since 2019 is the International Year of Periodic Table, our Mela this year will be focused on the wonders of chemistry including elements, minerals, compounds, mining and major industrial processes. The other sets of exhibits will be divided into several parts such as life sciences, wildlife flora and fauna, AI and electronics, mineral and agricultural resources and space sciences, to name a few. The Lahore Science Mela is open-to-all and invites interest from science organizations, aspiring scientists and researchers, professionals and other potential exhibitors. We coridally send an open invitation to all citizens of Pakistan, especially the studetns, teachers, parents and senior citizens to help us initiate the Science Mela Culture in our beloved country.
The LSM Series comprises of annual science festivals organized to cater to the need for the promulgation of scientific ideas and news among the general public. The event is accesible to all and we do not charge any fee from the exhibitors or the visitors. We gather students, teachers, parents and senior citizens from different parts of Lahore and the surroundings and make science available to them in its most simplest and comprehensive form. Apart from being temporary hubs of practical and experimental science, the Melas also become a platform for emerging scientists, science clubs, non-profit science organizations, tech startups, and other government and non-government based bodies to introduce themselves to the community.
* We welcome the Cricket matches between Pakistan and Sri Lanka on October 5-6, 2019 in Lahore. To ensure your smooth participation in the Lahore Science Mela 2019, we have re-scheduled it to October 12-13, 2019

The Art and Science of Science Communication
The Khwarizmi Science Society, Spectra Magazine and Technology Times Magazine have collaborated with Forman Christian College, University of Lahore and University of Punjab to organize a workshop on science communication and promulgation. The workshop is to be organized on April 3rd, 2019 and we cordially invite our esteemed members to participate.
Science and technology play a major role in most aspects of our daily lives both at home and at work. They affect many, if not most, policy issues of national and international importance. Science, technology and innovations are intricately linked to societal needs and the nation's economy in every area especially in transportation, communication, agriculture, education, environment, health, defense, and jobs. Every citizen, therefore, needs some understanding of science, its accomplishments and its limitations.
The need has never been greater for more effective science communication specifically designed to help the public and policy makers comprehend important issues involving science and technology. Without a clear understanding of science involved, it is impossible for the citizens to engage in meaningful thought, debate, or actions regarding some of the most pressing, controversial and consequential matters faced by the society.
It is imperative to teach and train the next generation of scientists and journalists to become better science communicators and to create a culture where they are supported and rewarded for their efforts in making science available to the public.
Objective
Orientation to science communication in broader context. This Session is designed to equip participants with core knowledge required to plan, implement and evaluate Science Communication activities in order to make complex science accessible to general public.
