Abstract: 

This seminar was conducted to familiarise the members with the Internet in general and special emphasis was laid upon the world wide web. In this lecture the emphasis was on what the internet as a whole is about and also the significance of the World Wide Web. Gist of the Seminar: It was also discussed that why the development of the WWW has resulted in a phenomenal growth in the usage of the Internet. In this particular lecture it was also discussed that what are the differences between standard network and the Internet. The following topics were covered in detail in this particular seminar:

  • The Internet Relay Chat
  • The working of Domain Name Servers
  • Emailing and a little guidance about effective emailing
  • Cause and effect of the World Wide web
  • The development of the Internet from simple networks

Simulation of Electronic Circuits using Pspice

Abstract: 

These independent workshops primarily covered the first year basic electrical engineering course.

Workshop-I:

It was divided into two phases: (a) schematics and (b) analysis. The following active components were discussed:

  • sine voltage and current sources,
  • piecewise voltage and current sources,
  • pulse voltage and current sources and exponential current and voltage sources.

In this workshop the students were also taught to design half wave and full wave sinusoidal rectifiers, clippers, clampers and peak rectifier circuits. It was explained that how to get parts, wire the circuit and place the markers. Then how to use VSIN and PWL VOLTAGE sources, VPULSE source, VOFF attributes of the sources. A circuit for different values of R and L simultaneously was simulated and described the advantages of using simulation software were also explained. Students were also invited to design their own circuits and simulate them to get results on the probe.

Workshop II:
The same workshop was repeated on request on the 1st and 2nd of December and was an enhanced version of the first workshop.

The following topics were covered in these two lectures: the importance of materials in human civilization, the relationship between the properties and the micro and macrostructures, the classification of materials on the basis of their properties, electronic materials and their diversity resistivity, resistance, conductivity and conductance metallic bonding free electron model of conduction in metals (qualitative) - the Drude's Model, drift velocity, difference between classical and quantum mechanics, energy band theory, energy band diagrams, and the conventions followed in drawing them, energy level treatment of insulators and conductors, introduction to semiconductors and their types, the purity threshold of a semiconductor, covalent bonding in semiconductors, hole and electron - recombination and generation, physical models for conduction in intrinsic and extrinsic semiconductors, energy level treatment of intrinsic and extrinsic semiconductors, and fermi level were covered in the talk.
