A Novel Laser and Plasma Hybrid Technique for Surface Modification

Registration:
Open to all.
Date:
24 April1998
Time:
11:00 am
Venue:
Centre for Solid State Physics, University of the Punjab, Quaid-e-Azam Campus, Lahore
Abstract:

A new technique for surface modification has been developed that incorporates plasma spraying coupled with CO2 laser irradiation simultaneously. The microstructural defects associated with plasma spraying have been significantly controlled with the laser beam irradiation. The tribological properties of the spraying synthesised films were evaluated by a sliding test under lubrication with oil. Results exhibit that it is quite possible to produce high performance tribo-material possessing better adhesiveness and low percentage of micro-porosity. Analytical results by XRD suggest that a metastable state is formed by laser irradiation during spraying process, which is closely related to anti-wear and low friction mechanisms.

Abstract:

This review presentation discusses what are the likely impacts of globalization on Pakistan. It is also a preview of world monetary and financial institutions. This session basically underscores the villain-like role played by global financial agencies (like IMF, WTO, and MNCs etc.) and hence presents a seamier side of globalization. Evolution of IMF and WB from the ashes of the 30's depression, to act as economic regulators: The present agencies are a perverse replica of their erstwhile shape, Globalization regime, What is meant by the term plus WTO (GATT), Uragway Agrements etc., What are the likely results of foreign trade liberalization (globalization) on Pakistan, Pakistan and South East Asia, Some dedications, How can we regulate globalization so that it may be a breeze, not a thunderstorm were discussed. At the end of the talk some suggestions were also be heared from the audiences.
